Touristy things to do in Cape Town

Things to do in Cape TownCape Town, AKA the ‘Mother City’ to us locals, is rated as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I might be a touch biased, but I believe it to be worthy of that rating, Cape Town is frikkin awesome!

One of the main things to do in Cape Town is visit Table Mountain which is the main tourist attraction in Cape Town. Every person who visits wants to get to the top, so expect lots of other travelers, but this is still a ‘Must do’.

Between Table Mountain and Signal hill, is the small Lion’s head mountain, and together they surround the city, making ‘the city bowl’.

At Cape Town harbour is the V&A Waterfront, another popular attraction for locals and tourists alike.

The general area in and around Cape Town is full of interesting and fun attractions and activities. Besides the many restaurants and shopping malls, there are lots of touristy things for visitors to do or see in Cape Town if you have your own transport.

All of the listed attractions below are safe and pretty easy to find. You do NOT need to hire a guide, and you can do most everything on your own if have your own transport. I highly recommend hiring a car or using Uber to get to the different places because the public transport in South Africa is not great. If you have not used Uber before, click here to get your first ride free, up to the value of R150 by using the code ‘uber2travelbugs‘ when you book.

If you DO have the budget, and would prefer to have a Cape Town tour guide fetch and take you to attractions, I can highly recommend Mile by Mile tours in Cape Town. Visit their Cape Town day tours page for a list of tours, anything not on their list, just ask, and they can probably make one up just for you. They also do private tours, so you can hire one of their guides with a car to take you to almost any attraction, even if its not one of their tours.
